It's easy to get caught up in all the excitement of having a baby and forgetting to take care of yourself. Yilin and I were both very guilty of this, forgetting to get enough sleep the first night and spending Noah's sleeping hours taking care of things like keeping the house clean. We have to remember that a clean house doesn't matter if we're too tired to even enjoy it.
Along the same lines is to cherrish the times that you have to yourself. Use it to do things that help you relax and recharge. For me, this means spending time to process some of the pictures that we took yesterday.
I had been taking mental notes on the kind of pictures that I wanted to take. Now that Noah's here, all I needed was a picture worth processing. He sleeps a lot and most of his cute faces are pretty short lived, so getting just the right shot isn't all that easy. I'd say that less than 10% of the pictures taken are really worth publishing.
The first picture in the set above was the one that I spent the most time on. He has a great little expression and the background wasn't too distracting. Here's the original after some color correction and levels adjustments.
